This observation comes as TikTok algos reign supreme, Insta cranks up algos, & even FB deprioritizes friends.
yeah this was the observation I made in this month’s IG signoff post (which I’m def not expecting you to check out Boris).
Something like: “this app’s tryna decide if it’s social (i.e. friend’s photos) or media (stranger’s videos). But either way it just wants your attention”.
Can’t sign in this week to check, which really reinforces I should stop locking any content into such a silo!
On the other hand, this article makes me feel grateful I’ve maintained a ~Dunbar-number-sized friend&fam email list with private monthly vlog for past half-decade. Cos Silicon Valley doesn’t seem to want to serve that use case over the next one.
I also feel an explicitly anti-algo platform like M.b can benefit from this.
